Here’s how to install the mobile modem on Windows PC via USB and tether the modem for Internet connection:
- Download and install the Zune software from zune.net
- Alternatively, for users who do not want to install Zune software or the PC has problem installing appropriate driver, try to download and install LG USB modem driver: PilotesLGe900.exe
- Launch the LG phone dialer, and dial ##634#, then press the Call button to bring up a list of applications under the screen title of “MFG”.
- When asked to input password, enter 277634#*# to unlock the password-protected MFG.
- Once MFG loads go to the USB Switching option in Menu Engineer -> Port Setting.
- Select the QC COMPOSITE and validate (switch to MS COMPOSITE to restore sync with Zune).
- The phone will automatically restart to activate the setting.
- Connect the phone to PC with a USB cable.
- Windows should automatically detect the Windows Phone 7 and install driver from the device. A phone modem named LGE CDMA USB Modem will be installed.
- Edit or configure the LGE CDMA USB Modem settings or properties from Device Manager, and add an additional string parameter in the Extra initialization commands from the Advanced tab (for USA AT&T network):
- AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","isp.cingular"
OR (in some cases, either one of these works better)
- AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","wap.cingular"
OR (for Canadian customers)
- AT+CGDCONT=1,"IP","inet.bell.ca"
- Manually create a new dial-up connection that uses the LGE USB modem with phone number to dial as *99***1# ( Canada use: *99# )
- Dial the new connection, and you should now have Internet access via the Windows Phone!
NOTE: There is no need to enter a username and password, but just in case, you can enter the below values (may be case sensitive):
Username: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM
Password: CINGULAR1

I am just wondering, the tethering function actually uses minutes as a call, or it access and uses the data package from the phone?

My bill has showed that it uses the data plan, and the carrier can detect that it was tethered to a PC, so they could charge you for tethering usage.

Sorry, but this did not work for me, I was able to get the phone recognized as a modem, and created the dialup, but never was to connect, kept getting error 618? (I think)

This error usually means something is wrong with the driver or Windows and the pre-scribed solution is a reboot or re-install Windows. http://modemsite.com/56k/dunserror.asp

At step 10, dialed number is *99#

It didn’t work for me. Error 619.
I checked http://modemsite.com/56k/dunserror.asp, which took me to a kb article that requested fiddling with active directory (which doesn’t seem related).
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Will this work on my “NEW” Windows 7 LG Quantum C900? (As stated on the actual phone)
I have AT&T and I was able to tether my older windows LG Incite from PDANet. But they have nothing for the NEW Windows 7 LG!
Please let me know as soon as you are able to!

I followed everything but when I go to dial I get a 619 error code. I looked at the Microsoft explanation to this but I am not fully understanding how to work around it.
Can anyone offer some help? or simpler directions on how to work around the 619 error code?
I am about ready to take this thing back and get a DROID! Arrrgh!

Step 5 says to set “QC Composite”. Will the LG tether and ZUNE still synch in this setting or only in “MS Composite”?
Is “MS Default” the factory setting?

For the error 619….it cannot make a tethered connection if your data connection (phone) is on. So go to Settings>Cellular and turn data connection off. After you connect, you can then turn the data connection back on (I am currently using this to post right now)

I did steps from 1-7 but when I connect the USB it only connects my to Zune it doesn’t install the modem. What can I do?

I’ve tried it out, but can’t get it to work. The device is working properly, I’ve tried both “isp.cingular” & “wap.cingular”. As well as entering the username 7 password. I don’t get a error #, just that it couldn’t connect. Any help would be appreciated.

anyway to apply this hack for another network? I’m using a small time network called Cellular One in Montana. I’ve got an AT&T phone, but have it unlocked and using on the Cellular One network. If I have APN settings, can I use this same hack, but substitute my network settings?

I think AT&T acquired Cellular One. Have you tried these settings or your substitued APN settings? I’m not familiar with that network, this is all that worked for me.

Aaahhh! Using MS COMPOSITE did NOT allow me to use the phone in Zune again. The tethering worked great, but now no matter what setting (MS COMPOSITE, MS DEFAULT, or QC COMPOSITE) I can’t connect to Zune!
When using MS COMPOSITE/MS DEFAULT my phone comes up as a “Microsoft USB Sync” device. This happens both on the computer that I installed the LG drivers on as well as my other computer which had not been touched through the whole process (which used to connect to Zune). I need to connect to Zune to be able to use the device for debugging through Visual Studio!
If I can’t figure out how to get it back to Zune Sync mode, I’m going to try a factory reset through the OS and if that doesn’t work then try a factory reset through this debug menu… I don’t even know if that will fix it, so if anyone has a solution, please tell me!
(I’ve also tried changing its drivers to the Zune drivers, but again, the device is now showing up as a “Microsoft USB Sync” device on all computers, even the ones that never had the drivers changed/installed on — it’s a problem with the phone!)

Problem solved: No idea what happened, but suddenly “MS COMPOSITE” is working the way it should and it is now Zune syncing no problem. No idea why it didn’t work before but it works now.

Thanks for this tutorial!! I only have one issue. My speeds aren’t consistent and I can’t figure out why. Is there a way to get higher speeds? I’m currently @ 1.6mbps down and 0.11mbps up. Sometimes I connect and I’ll only be able to pull 0.12mbps down and 0.01 mbps up.

Simple question: Is it possibile to have tethering AND zune connection working at the same time or do people have to switch between QC Composite and MS Composite whenever they need to change from tethering to zune and back?
BTW, I accidently left the QC Composite option active for a while and some of the USB chargers I have – namely charge with PC – stoped working until I switched back to MS Composite again.

I have the new 7.5 Mango update on my LG Quantum and am having trouble. It’s not connecting here. Are the settings the same for this? Has anyone tried this on Mango yet?

I have upgraded my LG Quantum handset to Mango as well, and after setting the port to QC Composite, my tethering still works connecting to AT&T. Remember that you must switch the USB port between MS Composite (synch with Zune) to QC Composite (modem).

I was getting the 619 error on AT&T. I changed it to the WAP setting, still got the error. Then I saw in the replies to make sure to turn data off on the phone. Once I did, it worked! Thank you so much for this posting!!

Me too – with Mango (7.5), for me disabling data did the trick. Using wap.cingular.

Just a quick update for everyone interested. As of this month, July 2012, AT&T has caught on that I was tethering and insisted that I add that to my plan. I have used this feature on occasion for the last year, but I think it was the sudden usage of lots of data that got their attention.
P.S. Am I the only on that thinks “getting caught tethering” sounds like you were doing something dirty?
